Tip: O meu=My for masculine things – O meu irmao(=My brother), O meu livro(=my book). A minha=my for feminine things – a minha irma(=my sister), a minha casa(=my house)

Tip: Try to think of all the words you can make from one word e.g. ligar: desligar, ligado, desligado, ligaco… ; comer: comida… infromar: informacao, informado/a…
You’ll start to see patterns to enable you to guess what a word could be, and of course you’re getting lots of words for the work of learning one :)

Tip: Pois is a useful ‘filler’ word. It can be used like well… e.g. pois, é difícil(=well, it’s difficult) or as a response in a conversation, a bit like yes, I see that we use to show we’re listening. Or with nao -pois nao it means isn’t it/haven’t you/don’t they etc (tags in negative sentences) e.g. nao gosta de peixe, pois nao?(=You don’t like fish, do you?), Nao está frio, pois nao?(=It isn’t cold, is it?)

Tip: Posso=I can /Can I? It’s followed by the verb(action) in the base, infinitive form. Posso falar com voce? =Can I speak to you Posso sair?=Can I leave?

Tip: To remember words can be difficult. A good way to help you remember is to come up with a sentence using the word – e.g. Vou chamar a minha mae hoje (=I’m going to call my mum today)
