Tip: words ending in -idade in Portuguese are often similar in meaning to those ending in -ity in English Examples: city-cidade, flexibilidade-flexibility, simplicidade-simplicity. Can you think of more?

Tip: -ao at the end often makes things bigger E.g. porta(=door), portao(=gate)

Tip:  andar de = travel by when talking about carro, aurocarro, avião, camião etc.  However, this changed to andar a, when taking about pé, boleia, cavalo
