Boa tarde! Let’s get nit-picky! What should it be: Falar no telefone OR Falar ao telefone? Sorry… those prepositions have reared their ugly heads!
Tip: em/de/a/por (prepositions) all combine with o(s)/a(s) (the) to make new words: no(s), na(s)/do(s),da(s)/ao(s),à(s)/pelo(s),pela(s). It is correct to not combine the words (em a, por o …) but you’ll find they usually are, so it’s worth getting used to them as they seem to be a common point of confusion
Bom dia! Tudo bem? Desculpe, deve ser engano. What’s wrong? a)the phone’s not working, b)it’s a wrong number c)it’s going to rain
Tip: Com licenca is a common way to end a phone call. To reply, simply say Com licenca
Bom dia! Bom fim de semana! Unscramble the letters to make a word that means the same as ‘mensagem’ c d r o e a
Tip: the beginnings of words are often ‘swallowed’ so you don’t hear them… makes listening confusing! E.g. ‘tou’ (pronounced toe) is actually ‘estou’. This is how a lot of people answer the phone here in Portugal.
