Bom dia! Which of the following is not a coffee? bica, galao, meia-de-leite, abatanada, batido, descafeinado, café cheio. Do you know any other words for coffee/different types of coffee?
Bom dia! Os senhores, vão desejar café? What’s the waiter asking? a) If the men want coffee b) if you all want coffee c) if the lords want coffee
Tip: vão desejar=are going to want vão comes from ir-to go (vou, vais vai, vamos, vão, =I go, you(tu) goes, he/she/you(você) go, we go, they go) To say I’m going to have, you’re going to eat etc. put the correct form of the verb ‘ir’ followed by the verb e.g. vou ter, você vai comer, vamos comer etc.
Bom dia! Here’s a question I don’t know the answer to… It depends where you are I guess. Quanto se deve deixar de gorjeta?
Tip: verb+se is often used as an impersonal way of saying you – like ‘one’ (put the se first with negatives or question words) Quanto se deve=how much should one .. Come se muito bacalhau em Portugal =One eats a lot of cod in Portugal, Nao se come a ementa = one doesn’t eat the menu
Boa tarde! What order would I eat/drink these things in (at a restaurant)? mousse de chocolate, pao e azeitonas, sopa, café, bacalhau com natas
Tip: Little words are useful. e=and (pronounced eeeee); ou=or (pronounced ‘oo’ like in food) mas=but (pronounced mazsh)
